Char Dham Yatra — Significance & Dwarka's Place in It

The Char Dham are four sacred abodes — Badrinath, Puri, Rameswaram and Dwarka — that together represent a pan-India pilgrimage. Dwarka in Gujarat is the western dham, which is why a Dwarka darshan carries such significance for pilgrims.
The four dhams
The classical Char Dham, as set out in tradition, are Badrinath (north), Puri (east), Rameswaram (south) and Dwarka (west). Completing all four is considered a lifetime pilgrimage.
Dwarka, Lord Krishna's legendary kingdom, is the western dham. Many pilgrims combine their Dwarka visit with Somnath and Bet Dwarka, turning the western dham into a fuller Saurashtra circuit. (Note the separate 'Chota Char Dham' in Uttarakhand is a different set of shrines.)
