Package overview

A clear, temple-first plan for your Somnath Dwarka trip

A Somnath Dwarka tour package from Ahmedabad covers 440 to 450 km to Dwarka on NH47, which is 8 to 9 honest hours with breaks, then 233 km down the coast to Somnath, and about 410 km back. Experience My India runs it from Rs. 5,000 per person per night, so the four day plan most families book is Rs. 15,000 per person with a 3 star hotel, breakfast and your vehicle included. The whole trip turns on one decision Ahmedabad forces and no other start city does, which is whether you drive or take the train, and the answer is decided by what time you arrive rather than how long you travel.

Trip highlights

  • Somnath Dwarka from Ahmedabad, from Rs. 5,000 per person per night, Rs. 15,000 per person for four days and three nights at 3 star, vehicle included.
  • The fastest train from Ahmedabad to Dwarka is the worst choice for a pilgrim, because it arrives at 23:54.
  • A 05:30 departure from Ahmedabad is what buys the evening darshan, because 450 km takes 8 to 9 hours and the temple gate reopens at 17:00.

The Ahmedabad decision: drive or take the train

Ahmedabad is the only start city where rail is genuinely competitive, because two direct trains reach Dwarka. That makes this the one page on the site where we argue with ourselves.

Start with the thing that decides it. Dwarkadhish shuts for the afternoon at about 1:00 pm and reopens near 5:00 pm. Every arrival time is graded against that gate, not against a clock.

The fastest train is the Okha Vande Bharat, 22925. It covers the route in 5 hours 44 minutes, which is quicker than any car will ever manage. It also leaves Ahmedabad at 18:10 and reaches Dwarka at 23:54. You arrive at midnight, pay for a hotel night you sleep through, and see nothing. The fastest option on the route is the worst one for a pilgrim, and the timetable is the reason.

The useful train is the Saurashtra Mail, 22945, the only daily service. It leaves Ahmedabad at 05:05 and reaches Dwarka around 13:10. That lands you inside the afternoon closure, which sounds like bad luck and is actually the point: you check in, eat, rest through the shut hours, and walk into the temple when the gate reopens at 5:00 pm. A slower train is the better train.

The catch rail does not solve is Dwarka itself. The sites are spread across 30 km, Bet Dwarka sits across Sudarshan Setu at Okha, and Nageshwar is on the road between. Arriving without a vehicle means negotiating one on the spot, at temple town prices, on the day you are most tired. Our packages include the vehicle for the whole route, which is why most Ahmedabad bookings drive.

The road, and why we leave at 05:30

NH47 is the working route and the most dependable of the three. NH947 is the alternate when NH47 has diversions. NH27 exists, runs close to 500 km, and we do not use it.

The 05:30 pickup is not us being difficult. It is arithmetic you can check. 450 km at 8 to 9 hours with a breakfast stop and a lunch stop puts you in Dwarka at about 16:30. The gate reopens at 17:00. Leave at 09:00 instead and you arrive at 20:00, which still catches the evening session but costs you the ghat, the light and the unhurried version. Leave at 11:00 and day one is a car seat.

The breakfast stop is on the Rajkot highway, in Kathiawadi thali country, and it is one of the better meals of the trip.

Which direction: Dwarka first or Somnath first

Both work. They are not the same trip.

Dwarka first is the default. It puts the longest drive on day one while everyone is fresh, gives Dwarka the full clear day it needs, and finishes at Somnath, which is 410 km from Ahmedabad rather than 450, so the last day is the shorter one.

Somnath first suits a late inbound flight into Ahmedabad. The run to Somnath is about 410 km and 7 to 8 hours, which is an hour kinder than the Dwarka leg, and it puts the 7:00 pm aarti and the 7:45 pm show on your first evening.

Tell us your inbound flight or train number and we will pick the direction for you. This is a two minute conversation, not a template.

Day-wise itinerary

  • 08:00Breakfast on the Rajkot highway. Kathiawadi thali country.
  • 13:30Lunch near Jamnagar.
  • 16:30Dwarka hotel check in. Lords Inn class at the 3 star tier.

  • 20:30Dinner. Early night, because tomorrow starts at six.
Day2
Dwarka, Bet Dwarka and Nageshwar
Full Day|Temple Visits
  • 06:30Mangala Aarti at Dwarkadhish. Shortest queue of the day and the quietest the temple gets.
  • 09:00Drive 30 km to Okha and across Sudarshan Setu, the 2.32 km cable stayed bridge that opened on 25 February 2024. Its footpath carries verses from the Bhagavad Gita.
  • 10:00Bet Dwarka darshan. The island temple keeps its own afternoon break, so morning is not optional here.
  • 12:30Back across the bridge.
  • 14:00Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, which sits on the Dwarka to Okha road and therefore costs you no detour on the return leg.
  • 16:00Rukmini Devi Temple, Gopi Talav and Bhadkeshwar Mahadev as the tide and the light allow.
  • 19:00Free evening. Second night in Dwarka.
Day3
Dwarka to Somnath via Porbandar, 233 km on NH51
Full Day|Temple Visits
  • 07:00Leave Dwarka after breakfast. The coastal run begins.
  • 09:30Porbandar. Kirti Mandir and the Sudama connection. This stop is the entire argument for the coastal route over the inland one.

  • 18:30Into the complex. Vallabhghat for sunset over the Arabian Sea.

Day4
Somnath to Ahmedabad, about 410 km
Full Day|Temple Visits
  • 07:00Mangala Aarti and unhurried darshan at the Jyotirlinga.
  • 09:00Bhalka Tirth, Triveni Sangam, Geeta Mandir, and the Ahalyabai temple the queen mother built in 1782.

Your route, day by day

Day 1

Ahmedabad to Dwarka, 440 to 450 km on NH47

Open route

Driving routes are indicative β€” the actual road taken depends on traffic and darshan timings on the day.

Good to know on price

The rate is per person per night. Multiply by your nights. Hotel, breakfast and your vehicle with a driver are inside every number, and there is no arithmetic hidden behind an enquiry form.

Group size picks the vehicle, not budget. Sedan for 2 to 3, Ertiga for 4 to 5, Innova Crysta for 5 to 6, 9 seater Tempo Traveller for 7 to 9, 12 seater Maharaja or Urbania for 10 to 12, 26 seater Tempo Traveller above that.

No five star Taj or ITC property operates in Dwarka or in Somnath. In Dwarka the top tier puts you in The Fern Sattva Resort. At Somnath it buys the best room in town, named in your quote before you pay. Taj and ITC enter your plan only on the legs that reach them, and from Ahmedabad that means Taj Skyline on your first or last night if you want it.

Cancellation, refunds and the payment schedule are set out in full on our cancellation and refund policy, and the booking terms sit alongside it. Read both before you pay. If your plan changes because a road shuts or a festival moves the temple's hours, talk to us first, because that is usually a reschedule rather than a cancellation.

The Shree Somnath Trust accepts pooja and donation bookings only through its own website and warns that it never asks for payment through private numbers, WhatsApp or UPI. Book sevas yourself at somnath.org. We will not take that money on your behalf.

Why choose Experience My India

  • We publish the departure arithmetic instead of asserting it. 450 km, 8 to 9 hours, gate reopens at 17:00, so we leave at 05:30. You can check every number on this page before you pay us anything.
  • We will talk you out of the fast train. The Vande Bharat is quicker and wrong, and an operator who cared more about looking modern than about your darshan would not tell you that.
  • The vehicle is in the price for the whole route, which matters more from Ahmedabad than from anywhere else, because Dwarka's sites are 30 km apart and arriving by rail leaves you negotiating a car at temple town prices.
  • A local Gujarat team plans the route and drives it. One number, +91 7302265809, on call and WhatsApp.
  • We reconfirm every timing before departure, because festival schedules move at Shravan, Janmashtami and Mahashivratri.

This trip is not for you if

  • You want to leave Ahmedabad after breakfast. A 09:00 start puts you in Dwarka at 20:00 and costs you the ghat and the light. An 11:00 start makes day one a car seat.
  • You want Dwarka and Somnath in one day from Ahmedabad. It is 450 km out, 233 km across and 410 km back, and both temples close in the afternoon. We will not sell it.
  • You want to fly. There is no useful airport at either temple town. Jamnagar is the nearest to Dwarka and by the time you have reached the airport, flown and driven on, the car left at 05:30 has arrived.
  • You are booking Janmashtami at short notice. Dwarka at Janmashtami is a different sport. Two to three months of lead time, or pick another week.
  • You want a five star Taj in Dwarka. It does not exist, and anyone selling you one should be asked for the property name.

450 km on NH47, a 05:30 start that buys you the evening darshan, 233 km of coast, and a train we will talk you out of. Rs. 15,000 per person at 3 star for four days, hotel, breakfast and vehicle included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Package FAQs

How far is Dwarka from Ahmedabad?
440 to 450 km by road on NH47, which is 8 to 9 honest hours with a breakfast and a lunch stop. By rail it is about 470 km. Somnath is closer, at about 410 km and 7 to 8 hours.
What is the best way to travel from Ahmedabad to Dwarka?
By road, if you want the temples rather than the journey. The car leaves at 05:30 and reaches Dwarka around 16:30, half an hour before the gate reopens at 17:00, and it stays with you for the whole circuit. Rail solves the long leg but leaves you without a vehicle in a town whose sites are 30 km apart.
Is there a direct train from Ahmedabad to Dwarka?
Yes. The Saurashtra Mail, 22945, is the only daily one and it leaves at 05:05 and reaches Dwarka around 13:10. The Okha Vande Bharat, 22925, is the fastest at 5 hours 44 minutes but departs 18:10 and arrives 23:54, which costs you a night and a darshan. It runs every day except Tuesday. Around ten weekly services also reach Dwarka, including the Rameswaram Okha, Ernakulam Okha and Guwahati Okha expresses. We check the running days for your travel dates when we build your plan.
Which train should a pilgrim take to Dwarka?
The Saurashtra Mail, even though it is slower. Its 13:10 arrival lands inside the temple's 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm closure, so you lose nothing by resting through it and walk in when the gate reopens. The Vande Bharat's 23:54 arrival wastes a hotel night.
How many days do you need for Dwarka and Somnath from Ahmedabad?
Four days and three nights is what most Ahmedabad families book, at Rs. 15,000 per person at 3 star. Three days works if you accept losing Bet Dwarka. Two days from Ahmedabad is a car ride, not a pilgrimage, and we will say so.
How much is a Dwarka Somnath package from Ahmedabad?
From Rs. 5,000 per person per night, so Rs. 15,000 per person for the standard four day, three night plan at the 3 star tier. Rs. 30,000 at 4 star and Rs. 37,500 at 5 star. Hotel, breakfast and your vehicle with driver are included in all three.
Should we visit Dwarka or Somnath first from Ahmedabad?
Dwarka first by default, because it puts the longest drive on day one while everyone is fresh and leaves the shorter 410 km leg for the journey home. Somnath first suits a late inbound flight, since it is about an hour closer and puts the aarti and the show on your first evening.
