A Diu extension adds the beaches and Portuguese-era forts of Diu to the Somnath–Dwarka circuit, usually as a 1–2 night add-on after Somnath. Diu is a Union Territory close to Somnath, offering a calm coastal contrast to the temple towns.
Why add Diu
Diu, a former Portuguese enclave and now a Union Territory, lies just beyond Somnath, making it an easy relaxing extension. Highlights include Diu Fort, the old churches, Nagoa and Ghoghla beaches, and a laid-back seaside pace.
Unlike the surrounding dry state, Diu has different local rules on alcohol; respect local norms and beach-safety advice. Allow one to two nights to unwind after the pilgrimage. Confirm monument timings and any entry fees on arrival.
