Distance from Dwarka to Bet Dwarka

The distance from Dwarka to Bet Dwarka is about 33 km, roughly 50 minutes by road via NH 51. Since the Sudarshan Setu bridge opened in 2024, you can now drive all the way onto the island across the bridge from Okha, so the old boat ferry is optional. The Dwarkadhish Temple to Bet Dwarka distance is the same, about 33 km, as the temple is in the centre of Dwarka.

Bet Dwarka, the island where Krishna is believed to have lived, is the most popular trip out from Dwarka and the journey got much easier in 2024. I was born in Dwarka and have driven this route countless times, so here are the exact distances, the routes and everything worth stopping for on the way. To do the trip with everything arranged, our Somnath Dwarka Tour Package from Experience My India includes Bet Dwarka.

How far is Dwarka to Bet Dwarka?

Dwarka to Bet Dwarka is about 33 to 35 km depending on the route, all via NH 51:

Route

Distance

Driving time

Via NH 51 (fastest)

33.4 km

about 50 min

Via NH 51 (alternate)

34.4 km

about 52 min

Via Internal Road and NH 51

34.6 km

about 55 min

All three routes run north along NH 51 to Okha and then across the bridge onto the island. The road is good and the drive is easy, well under an hour.

How to reach Bet Dwarka from Dwarka

This is where things changed for good. You drive about 30 km from Dwarka to Okha, then cross the Sudarshan Setu, a 2.32 km cable-stayed bridge (the longest in India), which opened in February 2024 and connects Okha directly to Bet Dwarka island. After the bridge you park in the paid parking and continue on foot or by auto to the temple. Many older guides still say Bet Dwarka is reachable only by boat, but that is no longer the case; the old Okha jetty boats still run for short joyrides and dolphin spotting, but they are not needed to get across. For a smooth day trip, Experience My India arranges a car and driver. For the island's temple, timings and legend, see our Bet Dwarka guide.

Dwarkadhish Temple to Bet Dwarka distance

Since the Dwarkadhish Temple sits in the heart of Dwarka, the Dwarkadhish to Bet Dwarka distance is the same as from the city, about 33 km or roughly 50 minutes by road. Most pilgrims do their Dwarkadhish darshan first, then set off for Bet Dwarka in the same morning.

What to see on the way from Dwarka to Bet Dwarka

The Dwarka to Bet Dwarka road is one of the best half-day loops in the region, with several stops along NH 51:

Nageshwar Jyotirlinga (about 17 km from Dwarka), one of the twelve Jyotirlingas with its towering Shiva statue. See our Nageshwar Jyotirlinga guide.

Shivrajpur Beach (about 12 km from Dwarka), the Blue Flag beach, ideal in the late afternoon.

Gopi Talav (about 20 km from Dwarka), the sacred pond linked to Krishna and the gopis.

Because Nageshwar sits between Dwarka and Okha, it pairs naturally with the island; for that specific leg, see the Bet Dwarka to Nageshwar route, about 22 km between the two.

How much time do you need?

Allow a comfortable half day for the round trip: about 50 minutes each way, plus a couple of hours on the island for the temple and Hanuman Dandi. Adding Nageshwar and Shivrajpur turns it into a full, satisfying day out from Dwarka. If you are still planning how to get to Dwarka in the first place, see how to reach Dwarka.

What travellers say

Real journeys planned by our team across the Somnath–Dwarka circuit.

Our 1 Day Dwarka Tour Package with Experience My India was very well planned. One of the best parts was visiting Bet Dwarka, which is now much easier to reach by road because of the Sudarshan Setu. Gurudutt ji explained that the island is around 33–35 km from Dwarka and the drive takes about 50 minutes. We also visited Nageshwar Jyotirlinga on the way, making the day even more meaningful. The car was comfortable, the driver was polite, and everything was managed smoothly.
