Places to Visit Near Somnath
Somnath Temple
The first of the twelve Jyotirlingas, standing on the Arabian Sea, is the anchor of this side of the trip. Darshan is free and the evening aarti is unmissable. Everything else on this list sits within easy reach of Somnath.
Bhalka Tirth
About 4 to 5 km from the temple, this is where Lord Krishna was struck by a hunter's arrow and left his earthly form. A quiet, moving shrine under an old peepal tree.
Triveni Sangam
The sacred confluence where the Hiran, Kapila and Saraswati meet the sea, roughly 2 km from the temple. Best in the calm of early morning and a place of ancestral rites.
Gir National Park
About 70 km inland, Gir National Park is the only wild home of the Asiatic lion. A morning safari makes a superb detour between the temple and the coast, though the core zone closes in the monsoon.
Tulsishyam
On the forest belt toward Gir, Tulsishyam is a Vishnu temple beside natural hot springs, with a well-known gravity hill nearby. A peaceful, offbeat stop for those with an extra half-day.
Places to Visit In and Around Diu
Diu Fort
A grand Portuguese sea fort, around 500 years old, with old cannons and wide ocean views. It is the centrepiece of any visit to Diu and the offshore Panikotha fort is visible from its walls.
Nagoa Beach
Diu's most famous beach, a curved bay lined with hoka palms and calm water good for a swim and light water sports. The natural place to spend a relaxed afternoon.
Naida Caves
A striking natural cave system beside the fort, where shafts of sunlight fall through gaps in the rock. It is photogenic and takes only a short while to explore.
Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple
A remarkable seaside shrine where five Shiva lingas sit right among the rocks and are washed by the waves at high tide. It is one of the most atmospheric temples on the whole coast.
St Paul's Church and INS Khukri Memorial
St Paul's is a white Portuguese-era church with fine carvings and a calm interior, while the INS Khukri Memorial honours the warship and crew lost in the 1971 war, set on a quiet headland with sea views. Ghoghla Beach, near the mainland approach, adds another clean, gentle stretch of sand.

How to Travel Between Somnath and Diu
Somnath and Diu are about 90 km apart, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road along the coast. The nearest railway to Diu is Delvada, about 10 km away, with Veraval serving the Somnath side. A private cab is by far the easiest way to link the two, since it lets you stop at Gir or Tulsishyam on the way. Best Time to Visit and Tips
October to March is the pleasant season for both the temple town and the coast. Do Somnath's outdoor sites early, keep Diu's beaches for the afternoon and sunset and dress modestly at the shrines. Why I Always Save Diu for Last
The order matters more than people think. Do the temples first, when you are fresh and the mornings are cool and let the pilgrimage build to the Somnath evening aarti. Then drive to Diu and let it decompress you: the fort at golden hour, Gangeshwar's waves over the lingas, a slow evening on Nagoa Beach. Somnath fills you up and Diu empties you out, in the best way. Guests who rush Diu into a half-day always tell me later they wished they had given it a night. Give it one and the whole trip lands differently.
