Somnath Itinerary for 1 Day
One well-paced day covers everything essential. This is the sequence I use, built around the 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM aartis and the 8:00 PM show.

Somnath Itinerary for 2 Days
With two days you keep Day 1 above and use Day 2 for one relaxed add-on, coming back for a calmer second darshan. Pick the one that fits your trip:
Day 2, option A: Gir. Drive about 1.5 hours for a morning lion safari, then return by evening. The Somnath Dwarka Gir tour is built around this pairing.

Places Your Somnath Itinerary Should Include
Shree Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple: the first of the twelve Jyotirlingas, facing the Arabian Sea. The heart of the trip.
Somnath Beach: right beside the temple, best at sunset for a sea breeze and a quiet walk.
Bhalka Tirth: about 4 km away, where Lord Krishna was struck by a hunter's arrow.
Gita Mandir: on the bank of the Triveni Sangam, its walls inscribed with verses of the Bhagavad Gita.
Prabhas Patan Museum: carved stones and inscriptions from earlier Somnath temples. Open 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, closed Wednesdays.
Somnath Timings You Need to Plan Around
The temple is open for darshan from early morning to late evening, with aarti at 7:00 AM, 12:00 noon and 7:00 PM and there is no entry fee. The Jay Somnath light and sound show runs 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM, weather permitting, with tickets sold at the temple after 6:00 PM. These can shift on festival days, so check the current Somnath temple timings and aarti timings before you finalise the day. The sacred Triveni Sangam is best in the calm of early morning.
Best Time to Visit and How to Get Around
October to March is the pleasant season and the peak, especially around Maha Shivratri. Summers are hot, so build in a long midday rest if you travel then. The nearest railway station is Veraval, about 7 km away and Diu airport is roughly 90 km. Everything on the one-day plan is within a few kilometres, so a private cab for the day is the easiest way to keep the sequence tight and staying close to the temple helps. The One Change I Always Make
Most itineraries you find online put the temple last, in the evening. I flip that. I take my travellers for darshan first thing, at the 7:00 AM aarti, when the marble is cool and the crowd is thin and I save the evening for the Sandhya aarti and the show from a distance. That way you see the Jyotirlinga twice, once in quiet and once lit against the sea and the middle of the day handles Bhalka, Triveni and lunch without anyone rushing. It is a small reorder, but it is the difference between ticking Somnath off and actually feeling it. That instinct is baked into how the Experience My India Somnath days are paced.
