I am Harsh Rawat, born in Dwarka and a guide on this coast for more than 8 years. This is the shortest and to my mind the most meaningful, hop in all of Somnath. The temple and the Triveni Sangam are barely 1.4 km apart, so most pilgrims fold them into one visit. Somnath Temple to Triveni Sangam Distance and Time
All three driving routes are short and take the same seven minutes. The difference between them is a hundred metres, so on the ground it comes down to which turn your driver prefers.

Because every route is about seven minutes, there is no wrong choice here. Triveni Rd is the direct spine between the two and the Somnath Mandir Rd variant simply picks it up from the temple exit. The 1.5 km option adds one small loop and no extra time.
Which Route Should You Take?
Follow Triveni Rd. It is the straight line from the temple to the ghat and the one every local driver uses. The only reason to take a variant is temple-exit traffic during aarti hours or on festival days, when slipping onto Somnath Mandir Rd first can be smoother. Otherwise the routes are interchangeable.
How to Reach Triveni Sangam from Somnath
At 1.4 km this is genuinely walkable, about fifteen to twenty minutes on foot and many pilgrims do exactly that after darshan. If it is hot or you are with elders, an auto-rickshaw costs very little and takes minutes. A private cab makes sense if you are already touring Somnath for the day and want to carry on to Bhalka Tirth, which lies just a few kilometres further along the same road.
What Is the Triveni Sangam?
Triveni means three streams. At this ghat the rivers Hiran, Kapila and the mythical Saraswati, believed to flow underground and surface here, meet and pour together into the Arabian Sea. It is one of the rare confluences where three rivers meet the ocean, which is why it ranks among the sacred sangams alongside Prayagraj. Standing where fresh water gives way to the sea, with the temple spire behind you, is one of the quiet highlights of any Somnath trip.
Rituals and Why Pilgrims Visit
The confluence is above all a place of remembrance. Pilgrims perform Pind Daan and Tarpan here for their ancestors and the wider Prabhas Patan area has been associated with Shraddha rites for centuries, with local priests to guide visitors. A holy dip is believed to cleanse past deeds and bring peace. There is a moving legend behind it too: Lord Krishna is said to have come to these waters after being struck at Bhalka Tirth, before leaving his earthly body. Best Time to Visit and Darshan Tips
Early morning, roughly 6:00 to 8:00 AM, is the finest window: calm water, soft light and far fewer people than late morning. October to March is the pleasant season on this exposed coast. A common flow is to attend the morning aarti at the temple, walk down for a quiet moment at the sangam, then move on. How I Time This Short Walk
The number people search for is the distance, but the distance is not the point of the Triveni Sangam. The point is when you go. I take my travellers at first light, before the temple fills, so the confluence is still and the sea is catching the early sun. Seven minutes by road or a slow twenty on foot and you move from the roar of the Jyotirlinga to complete quiet at the water.
