Package overview

A clear, temple-first plan for your Somnath Dwarka trip

A Somnath Dwarka tour package from Vadodara covers 490 to 520 km to Dwarka, which is 8 to 9 honest hours, then 233 km down the coast to Somnath. Experience My India runs it from Rs. 5,000 per person per night, so the four day plan most Vadodara families book is Rs. 15,000 per person with a 3 star hotel, breakfast and your vehicle included. There is a daily train, and we are going to spend a section talking you out of it, because it leaves Vadodara Junction at 02:57 in the morning.

Trip highlights

  • Somnath Dwarka from Vadodara, from Rs. 5,000 per person per night, Rs. 15,000 per person for four days at 3 star, vehicle included, and the rate does not rise because you are further out.
  • The only daily train from Vadodara to Dwarka leaves at 02:57, which is why we tell Vadodara travellers to drive and Ahmedabad travellers to take the same train.
  • The Statue of Unity is 90 km from Vadodara in the opposite direction to Dwarka. It is not an en route stop and nobody should sell it as one.

The 02:57 problem

The Saurashtra Mail, 22945, is the only train that runs daily from Vadodara to Dwarka. It leaves Vadodara Junction at 02:57 and reaches Dwarka at 13:10, which is about ten hours and a quarter for 567 to 569 km of track.

The arrival is perfect. 13:10 lands you inside the Dwarkadhish afternoon closure, which runs from about 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, so you check in, eat, rest, and walk into the temple when the gate reopens at 5:00 pm. We recommend exactly this train from Ahmedabad and we recommend it hard.

The departure is the problem. 02:57 is not an early start. It is the middle of the night. You are awake at one in the morning, at the station by half past two, and on a ten hour train having not slept. You then arrive to a shut temple, and the rest you take in the afternoon is not a bonus, it is repair.

Here is what makes this specific rather than a complaint. It is the same train. It leaves Mumbai Central at 21:05, where you board after dinner and sleep for eight hours. It leaves Ahmedabad at 05:05, which is early but human. It picks Vadodara up at 02:57, and all three of you step onto the same Dwarka platform at 13:10. The train has a middle, and Vadodara is sitting in it at three in the morning.

So from Vadodara, we drive. Not because rail is bad here, but because this particular hour is.

Unless your date says otherwise

That is the rule, and there is a real exception to it.

Vadodara has more than one train to Dwarka. Several run weekly rather than daily, and some of them leave at hours a person would choose, arriving in slots that work just as well as the 13:10. The catch is that they run on particular days, those days change, and a page that printed them today would be lying to you by winter.

So we do not print them. Send us your dates and we will check what is actually running that week, and if a civilised train exists on your day we will tell you to take it and we will meet it at Dwarka. If it does not, we drive at 05:30.

That is a real answer that costs us a booking sometimes. We would rather have it than a timetable that rots.

The road, and why we leave at 05:30

490 to 520 km to Dwarka, which is 8 to 9 hours with a breakfast stop and a lunch stop. You pass Ahmedabad about two hours in, and from there you are on the road the Ahmedabad page describes.

The 05:30 pickup is arithmetic you can check. Leave at 05:30, reach Dwarka at about 16:30, and the gate reopens at 17:00. Leave at 09:00 and you arrive at 20:00, which still catches the evening session but costs you the ghat and the light. Leave later than that and day one is a car seat.

It is worth saying plainly: this drive is 110 km longer than the same drive from Ahmedabad, in each direction. That is roughly two extra hours on your trip, and no amount of planning removes them. If you have family in Ahmedabad and the option to start from there, you will have a better first day. We would rather tell you that than sell you the longer version.

The Statue of Unity is not on the way

It comes up on every Vadodara enquiry, so here it is. The Statue of Unity is about 90 km from Vadodara. It is also in the opposite direction to Dwarka.

Bundling it into this circuit means driving 90 km southeast, then turning around and driving 90 km back past Vadodara before your trip to Dwarka has even started. That is 180 km and most of a day, purchased in order to describe two separate holidays as one.

Do both. Do them as two trips, or as one trip with the statue on its own bookend day, priced honestly. What we will not do is print it as an en route stop, because it is not one and you would notice at about 7 pm on day one.

  • 07:30Past Ahmedabad. From here you are on the route the Ahmedabad page describes, two hours behind their car.

  • 13:30Lunch near Jamnagar.
  • 16:30Dwarka hotel check in, Lords Inn class at the 3 star tier.
  • 17:30Dwarkadhish evening darshan. The gate reopened at 5:00 pm, so the queue is moving.

  • 20:30Dinner. Early night, because tomorrow starts at six.
Day2
The middle, which is the same from everywhere
Full Day|Temple Visits

Once you are in Dwarka, your start city stops mattering. Days 2 and 3 run identically whether you came from Vadodara, Ahmedabad or Mumbai, so rather than retype them we will tell you what they hold and send you to the page that sets them out hour by hour. Day 2 is Dwarka: the 6:30 am Mangala Aarti, then Bet Dwarka across Sudarshan Setu, then Nageshwar Jyotirlinga on the way back, then Rukmini Devi and the shore temples. Day 3 is the 233 km coastal run to Somnath through Porbandar, ending at the Sandhya Aarti and the 7:45 pm show. The full hour by hour version of both days is on the 4 days 3 nights plan. It is the same two days you are buying here.

Day3
Somnath to Vadodara, the long leg home
Full Day|Temple Visits
  • 07:00Mangala Aarti and unhurried darshan at the Jyotirlinga.
  • 09:00Bhalka Tirth, Triveni Sangam, Geeta Mandir, and the Ahalyabai temple the queen mother built in 1782.
  • 10:30Depart for Vadodara. This is the longest day of the trip and there is no way around it. We leave earlier than the Ahmedabad plan does for exactly that reason.
  • 19:30Drop at your Vadodara address, the station or the airport.

Your route, day by day

Day 1

Vadodara to Dwarka, 490 to 520 km

Open route

Driving routes are indicative β€” the actual road taken depends on traffic and darshan timings on the day.

Good to know on price

The rate is per person per night. Multiply by your nights. Hotel, breakfast and your vehicle with a driver are inside every number, and there is no arithmetic hidden behind an enquiry form.

Group size picks the vehicle, not budget. Sedan for 2 to 3, Ertiga for 4 to 5, Innova Crysta for 5 to 6, 9 seater Tempo Traveller for 7 to 9, 12 seater Maharaja or Urbania for 10 to 12, 26 seater Tempo Traveller above that.

The rate does not change because Vadodara is further out than Ahmedabad. The vehicle is in the price either way and we absorb the extra 220 km across the round trip. What you cannot absorb is the two hours, and those are yours.

No five star Taj or ITC property operates in Dwarka or in Somnath. In Dwarka the top tier puts you in The Fern Sattva Resort. At Somnath it buys the best room in town, named in your quote before you pay. Taj and ITC enter your plan only on the legs that reach them, and from Vadodara that means Welcomhotel ITC Alkapuri on your own doorstep, which is a hotel you can book without us.

Cancellation, refunds and the payment schedule are set out in full on our cancellation and refund policy, and the booking terms sit alongside it. Read both before you pay. If a road shuts or a festival moves the temple's hours, talk to us first, because that is usually a reschedule rather than a cancellation.

The Shree Somnath Trust accepts pooja and donation bookings only through its own website and warns that it never asks for payment through private numbers, WhatsApp or UPI. Book sevas yourself at somnath.org. We will not take that money on your behalf.

Why choose Experience My India

  • We read the Vadodara timetable instead of copying the Ahmedabad advice. The same train that we tell Ahmedabad to take, we tell you to skip, and the reason is 02:57.
  • We check your dates against the weekly services rather than printing a timetable that decays. Sometimes that means we tell you to take a train and we only sell you the ground half.
  • We will tell you that starting from Ahmedabad gives you a better first day, if you have that option. An operator paid by the kilometre would not.
  • We will not bundle the Statue of Unity into this circuit to make the quote look bigger. It is 90 km in the wrong direction and you would notice.
  • A local Gujarat team plans the route and drives it. One number, +91 7302265809, on call and WhatsApp.
  • We reconfirm every timing before departure, because festival schedules move at Shravan, Janmashtami and Mahashivratri.

This trip is not for you if

  • You want the Statue of Unity on the way. It is not on the way. It is 90 km backwards, and pretending otherwise costs you most of day one.
  • You want to leave Vadodara after breakfast. A 09:00 start puts you in Dwarka at 20:00 and costs you the ghat and the light. Later than that and day one is a car seat.
  • You cannot sleep sitting up and you want the daily train anyway. 02:57 will take a day off the rest of your trip and you will feel it at Bet Dwarka on morning two.
  • You want Dwarka and Somnath in one day from Vadodara. It is 500 km out, 233 across and 440 back, and both temples close in the afternoon. We will not sell it.
  • You want a five star Taj in Dwarka. It does not exist, and anyone selling you one should be asked for the property name.

490 to 520 km, a 05:30 start that buys the evening darshan, and one daily train at 02:57 that we will talk you out of unless your dates say otherwise. Rs. 15,000 per person at 3 star for four days, hotel, breakfast and vehicle included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Package FAQs

How far is Dwarka from Vadodara?
490 to 520 km by road, which is 8 to 9 honest hours with a breakfast and a lunch stop. By rail it is 567 to 569 km. That is roughly 110 km further than the same trip from Ahmedabad, in each direction.
Is there a direct train from Vadodara to Dwarka?
Yes, one daily. The Saurashtra Mail 22945 leaves Vadodara Junction at 02:57 and reaches Dwarka at 13:10, about ten hours and a quarter. The arrival is ideal, since it lands inside the temple's afternoon closure. The departure is the middle of the night, which is why we usually tell Vadodara travellers to drive. Several weekly services leave at better hours, and we check which of them run on your dates.
What is the best way to travel from Vadodara to Dwarka?
By road for most people. We leave at 05:30 and reach Dwarka around 16:30, half an hour before the gate reopens at 17:00, and the vehicle stays with you for the whole circuit. The daily train is a fine ride at a punishing hour. If a weekly service runs on your date at a reasonable time, we will say so.
Can we cover the Statue of Unity with Dwarka and Somnath?
Not as one route. The Statue of Unity is about 90 km from Vadodara in the opposite direction to Dwarka, so adding it means 180 km of doubling back before the circuit starts. Do it as its own day at either end of the trip and we will price it that way.
How many days do you need for Dwarka and Somnath from Vadodara?
Four days and three nights, at Rs. 15,000 per person at the 3 star tier. Three days works only if you accept losing Bet Dwarka, and from Vadodara it is tighter than it is from Ahmedabad because the drive is 110 km longer at each end.
How much is a Dwarka Somnath package from Vadodara?
From Rs. 5,000 per person per night, so Rs. 15,000 per person for the standard four day, three night plan at the 3 star tier. Rs. 30,000 at 4 star and Rs. 37,500 at 5 star. Hotel, breakfast and your vehicle with driver are included in all three, and the rate does not go up because you are further out.
