Dwarka to Statue of Unity Distance: Routes, Time and How to Reach

Dwarka to Statue of Unity is about 607 km by road via NH 151A, roughly 10 hours of driving. The nearest city is Vadodara, and the statue is closed on Mondays. Experience My India can add the Statue of Unity to your Dwarka or Somnath trip.
I am Harsh Rawat, born in Dwarka and I have spent more than eight years planning Gujarat trips for travellers who want to pair Krishna's coast with the modern marvel that is the Statue of Unity. Dwarka and the statue sit at opposite ends of the state, so the drive is long and best planned with care. I handle these trips for the Somnath Dwarka Tour Package team, a unit of Experience My India. In this guide I set out the real Dwarka to Statue of Unity distance both ways, the routes and timings, the nearest city, the all-important Monday closure and how to reach it by road, train or air.

How far is Dwarka to Statue of Unity?
Dwarka to the Statue of Unity is about 607 km by road via NH 151A, taking roughly 10 hours of driving, with other routes running between 606 and 607 km. The statue stands at Ekta Nagar, formerly Kevadia, in the Narmada district of eastern Gujarat, while Dwarka sits on the far western tip of the Saurashtra coast, so this is a full day on the road. Here are the main driving routes from Dwarka.
Route | Distance | Driving time |
via NH 151A (fastest) | 607 km | 10 hr 8 min |
via NH 151A (alternate) | 607 km | 10 hr 20 min |
via NH 47 (shortest) | 606 km | 12 hr |
What are the best routes from Dwarka?
The routes are close in distance but differ in speed, so it comes down to the roads you prefer:
NH 151A (about 607 km, 10 hr 8 min): the fastest and most common choice for a single long driving day.
NH 151A alternate (about 607 km, 10 hr 20 min): almost identical, with a slightly different link at one stretch.
NH 47 (about 606 km, 12 hr): marginally the shortest on distance but noticeably slower, so choose it only if the roads suit you.
Because it is a long haul, many travellers break the journey at Rajkot, Ahmedabad or Vadodara or use a private cab with a driver so they can rest along the way.
How far is Statue of Unity to Dwarka?
The return is similar, with small differences from one-way stretches and route choices. The main options:
Route | Distance | Driving time |
via NH 151A (fastest) | 606 km | 10 hr 22 min |
via NH 47 (shortest) | 596 km | 10 hr 44 min |
via NH 47 and NH 151A | 614 km | 10 hr 40 min |
So NH 151A is the quickest way back, while NH 47 is the shortest by distance at about 596 km. On a round trip, coming one way and returning the other lets you see more of Gujarat.
How do you reach the Statue of Unity from Dwarka?
There is no need to drive the whole way if you would rather not. The practical options:
By road: a long day of about 10 hours via NH 151A, best broken at Rajkot, Ahmedabad or Vadodara.
By train: the statue has its own station, Ekta Nagar, about 5 km away; travel from Dwarka toward Ahmedabad or Vadodara and connect onward.
By air: fly to Vadodara, the nearest airport at about 90 km, then drive to Ekta Nagar in roughly 2 hours.
Via Somnath: many pilgrims go Dwarka to Somnath first, then on to the statue, turning it into a temple-and-monument trip.
Because it sits at the other end of the state, the statue is usually added to a wider Gujarat itinerary. Our Gujarat tour packages can fold the Statue of Unity in with the temples and the coast on one planned route.
Which city is nearest to the Statue of Unity?
The statue stands at Ekta Nagar, the township at the site itself. The nearest major city and the practical base for most visitors, is Vadodara, about 90 km away, roughly a 2 hour drive. For context:
Vadodara: about 90 km, the nearest big city, airport and major railway junction.
Surat: about 150 km, another common approach from the south.
Ahmedabad: about 200 km, with the most flights and trains for far-away visitors.
Which day is the Statue of Unity closed?
The Statue of Unity is closed every Monday, without exception, for maintenance. This single detail catches thousands of visitors out each year, so plan around it. On the other days it is open Tuesday to Sunday, roughly 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with last entry in the late afternoon. Book the viewing gallery slot online in advance, especially on weekends and holidays and carry a photo ID for entry. After a ten hour drive from Dwarka, the last thing you want is to arrive on a Monday.

What I tell travellers about this trip
I am honest that Dwarka and the Statue of Unity are a long way apart and that surprises people who picture Gujarat as compact. Ten hours of driving is a real day, so I never squeeze the statue in as an afterthought. If it matters to you, I build the trip around it: a night at Rajkot, Ahmedabad or Vadodara, an early arrival at Ekta Nagar on a day that is not Monday and the viewing gallery booked ahead. A lovely way to do it is to travel from Dwarka down to Somnath first, then across to the statue, so the long distance is broken by a second darshan. Get the Monday right and it is a wonderful addition; get it wrong and you drive all that way to closed gates. That is exactly the kind of detail our planning exists to catch and it is how Experience My India keeps these long Gujarat routes smooth.
