Bet Dwarka Ferry Timing: Okha Boat Hours, Fare and the Last Return

Public ferries from Okha Port to Bet Dwarka run daily from roughly 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM or sunset, leaving every 10 to 30 minutes once the boat is full. The crossing takes 15 to 20 minutes and costs about 40 to 50 rupees per person one way. Experience My India can arrange the whole Bet Dwarka trip for you.
What Are the Bet Dwarka Ferry Timings?
Public ferries from Okha Port to Bet Dwarka run daily from roughly 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM or until sunset, with boats leaving every 10 to 30 minutes as soon as they fill up. I am Harsh Rawat, born in Dwarka and I have made this short sea crossing more times than I can count while guiding guests on the Somnath Dwarka Tour Package. The ferry is the classic way to reach the island of Bet Dwarka and knowing how it actually works saves you a lot of waiting and worry.
The most important thing to understand is that the ferry does not follow a strict clock. Boats depart when enough passengers have boarded, so in peak season you rarely wait long, while on a quiet afternoon you may sit a little longer until the boat is full.

How Much Does the Bet Dwarka Ferry Cost?
Government ferries cost about 40 to 50 rupees per person for a one way crossing, which makes the round trip very affordable. Private charters are available if you want your own boat or a flexible departure and those cost more. For most pilgrims the shared government ferry is perfectly comfortable and is the way almost everyone crosses.
How the Ferry Schedule Actually Works
There is no fixed timetable to memorise. Boats depart as soon as enough passengers board, so the busier the dock, the faster you leave. In the morning darshan rush and on weekends and festival days, ferries run back to back and the wait is short. On a slow afternoon you may wait a little longer for the boat to fill. My advice is simple: go early, when the crossings are frequent and the island is calmer.
Do Not Miss the Last Return Boat
The final return boat from Bet Dwarka to Okha leaves around 6:00 PM and this is the one timing you must respect. Overnight options on the island are limited, so missing the last ferry is a real problem, not a small inconvenience. I always tell my guests to start back from the island by late afternoon, with time in hand, rather than squeezing in one more thing and racing the sunset to the dock.

Monsoon and Rough Seas
Ferry services can pause during the monsoon, roughly June to September, when the seas turn rough and crossings become unsafe. If you are travelling in these months, always check conditions on the day and keep the road option in mind as a backup. The sea here can change quickly and the boatmen will not sail when it is unsafe, which is exactly as it should be.
The Road Alternative: Sudarshan Setu
You no longer have to depend on the ferry at all. You can also drive or take a cab across the Sudarshan Setu cable bridge, which gives all-weather access to the island. The bridge is a blessing during the monsoon and for anyone who finds boats difficult, such as elderly pilgrims or families with small children. For the full picture of the island, its temples and the bridge, see our complete Bet Dwarka guide.
Many guests now do the best of both: cross by ferry one way for the experience of the sea and return over the Sudarshan Setu by road. It is a lovely way to see Bet Dwarka from the water and from the bridge in a single trip.
How to Reach Okha Port for the Ferry
Okha is the mainland port for the Bet Dwarka ferry and it sits about 30 kilometres north of Dwarka town, close to the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga. Most pilgrims reach Okha by road from Dwarka in under an hour. Our guide on how to reach Dwarka covers the airport, train and road options to get you to the coast in the first place.
Because Okha is so close to the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga temple, most of my guests pair the two in one smooth half day: Nageshwar darshan, then the Bet Dwarka ferry, then back. It is the natural way to cover the Dwarka coast without backtracking.
What to See Once You Cross to Bet Dwarka
Bet Dwarka is the island where Lord Krishna is believed to have lived and the main Dwarkadhish temple on the island is the heart of any visit. Beyond the temple you will find quiet beaches, local snack stalls and the simple charm of a working fishing island.
If you have time on the Dwarka mainland too, the Sudama Setu pedestrian bridge over the Gomti is an easy, memorable walk that pairs well with a Bet Dwarka day.
What I Tell Every Guest About the Ferry
After 8 years and more than fifty thousand travellers, here is my honest advice about the Bet Dwarka ferry. Go in the morning. The light on the water is beautiful, the boats run often so you barely wait and the island is cooler and calmer before the midday crowds. Carry small cash for the fare, hold on to children on the jetty and do not feed the gulls from the boat, however tempting it is.
And plan your return with room to spare. The single mistake I see again and again is a family that lingers too long on the island and then panics about the last boat. If boats make you nervous or you are travelling in the monsoon, simply take the Sudarshan Setu bridge by road instead. Either way, Bet Dwarka is worth every minute and the short sea crossing is part of what makes it special.
