Sasan Gir Safari Ticket Price, Timings & Booking (2026)

A Sasan Gir jungle safari costs roughly ₹6,000 to ₹7,700 per jeep for Indian citizens (seating 6 to 8 people) and about ₹16,500 to ₹18,700 for foreign nationals, including the permit, gypsy, driver and guide. Each safari lasts about 3 hours, the park runs morning and evening shifts, and it is open from 16 October to 15 June. Prices are set by the forest department and change, so confirm the current tariff on the official portal before booking.
Booking the Gir safari right, at the correct price, on the official portal and well ahead, makes all the difference. I was born on this coast and have arranged the safari for countless travellers, so here are the ticket prices, the seasonal timings and exactly how to book without falling for a fake site. To do the safari as part of a full trip, our Somnath Dwarka Tour Package from Experience My India can include Gir with the permits arranged for you.
Sasan Gir safari ticket price (Gir Jungle Trail)
The main safari is the Gir Jungle Trail, an open-gypsy drive through the sanctuary. Prices are per vehicle and include the permit, gypsy, driver and guide:
Category | Approx. price (per jeep) |
Indians, 6-seater jeep | ₹6,000 to ₹6,200 |
Indians, 8-seater jeep | ₹7,000 to ₹7,700 |
Foreign nationals | ₹16,500 to ₹18,700 |
Duration | About 3 hours |
These are indicative rates. Because the fee is a mix of the permit, the gypsy hire and the guide and because the forest department revises charges from time to time (with weekday and weekend differences), always check the current tariff on the official portal when you book.
Devaliya Safari Park ticket price
If you miss a Gir Jungle Trail permit or want a guaranteed sighting, the Devaliya Safari Park is a fenced part of the sanctuary where lions are almost always seen. It is a shorter, more stage-managed experience:
Category | Approx. price |
Indians, jeep safari | ₹5,200 per vehicle |
Indians, bus safari | ₹250 per person |
Foreign nationals, jeep safari | ₹16,800 per vehicle |
Duration | About 1 hour |
Devaliya is also the alternative in the monsoon, since it usually stays open when the main park is closed. For when to go and what you are likely to see, read the best time to visit Gir for sightings.
Gir safari timings
Safaris run in fixed shifts and the times shift with the season:
Season | Morning shifts | Evening shift |
Winter (16 Oct to 28/29 Feb) | 6:45 to 9:45 AM; 8:30 to 11:30 AM | 3:00 to 6:00 PM |
Summer (1 Mar to 15 Jun) | 6:00 to 9:00 AM; 8:30 to 11:30 AM | 4:00 to 7:00 PM |
Each trail lasts about 3 hours and the first morning slot and last evening slot are usually best for sightings. The park is closed for the monsoon from 16 June to 15 October.
What the ticket price includes
The Gir Jungle Trail fee covers the entry permit, the open gypsy (four-wheel-drive vehicle), the driver and a trained forest guide. One e-permit covers up to six people. It does not include tips, camera fees where applicable, meals or hotel stays and Devaliya is charged separately. Carry the exact amount and a valid government ID for every person named on the permit.
How to book a Gir safari
This is the part to get right. All Gir Jungle Trail permits are sold online only, through the official Gujarat Forest Department portal at girlion.gujarat.gov.in, there is no on-the-spot booking for the main safari. Permits open around 90 days in advance and, in peak season from November to March, weekend slots sell out fast, so book early. You will choose the date, shift and vehicle, enter every traveller's name and ID details and pay online to get a confirmation voucher. Carry the original ID (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence) for each person and reach the reception centre at Sasan at least 30 minutes before your slot.
A warning worth heeding: the forest department itself cautions against fraudulent websites and agents offering “confirmed” or “tatkal” permits at premium rates. Only the official government portal issues valid permits and they are checked at the gate. If you would rather not navigate it yourself, Experience My India can arrange the permits and the gypsy for you as part of a Somnath and Gir tour.
Tips for a Gir safari
Book early, especially for weekends and the December to March peak.
Pick the first or last slot of the day for the best chance of a sighting.
Carry original IDs for everyone on the permit; entry is refused without them.
Dress in earthy colours and carry water, a hat and binoculars.
Consider Devaliya if you want a guaranteed sighting or miss a main permit.
