Porbandar to Dwarka Distance
Quick answer

Porbandar to Dwarka is about 104 km by road via NH 51, roughly 1 hour 36 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes of driving. The two coastal towns sit close together, so it is an easy half-day hop. Experience My India can add Porbandar to your Dwarka trip.

I am Harsh Rawat, born in Dwarka, so this stretch of the Saurashtra coast is my home ground and Porbandar is one of my favourite stops to add to a Dwarka trip. It is close, easy and full of meaning, being both the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and the town linked to Sudama. I handle these trips for the Somnath Dwarka Tour Package team, a unit of Experience My India. In this guide I set out the real Porbandar to Dwarka distance both ways, the routes and timings, how to travel between them and what is worth seeing in Porbandar along the way.

How far is Porbandar to Dwarka?

Porbandar to Dwarka is about 104 km by road via NH 51, taking roughly 1 hour 36 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes, with routes ranging from 102 to 108 km. Both towns lie on the Saurashtra coast, so it is a short, scenic drive rather than a long haul. Dwarka sits at the western tip and Porbandar to its southeast, making the two an easy pair. Here are the main driving routes from Porbandar.

What are the best routes from Porbandar to Dwarka?

The routes are close in both distance and time, so any of them works well:

  • NH 151AD and NH 51 (about 102 km, 1 hr 36 min): the quickest and shortest and the usual choice.

  • NH 51 (about 104 km, 1 hr 37 min): the straightforward coastal highway, almost identical in time.

  • Bhanvad to Porbandar Road and NH 51 (about 108 km, 1 hr 37 min): slightly longer, an option if you are approaching from inland.

Because the drive is short, it is comfortable in a private cab and easy to fit into a single day with time to spare at both ends.

How far is Dwarka to Porbandar?

The return is much the same, with small differences by route. The main options:

via NH 51 and NH 151AD (shortest)

103 km

So the Dwarka to Porbandar Highway is the quickest way back, while the NH 51 and NH 151AD pairing is marginally the shortest. Either way it is comfortably under two hours.

How do you travel between Porbandar and Dwarka?

Being so close and both well connected, the two towns are easy to link:

  • By cab: the simplest and most flexible option, ideal for adding a Porbandar stop to a Dwarka trip.

  • By bus: state and private buses run frequently along the coastal NH 51 between the two towns.

  • By train: both Porbandar and Dwarka have railway stations, though a road transfer is usually quicker for this short hop.

  • By air: Porbandar has its own airport, so some travellers fly in and then drive on to Dwarka; flights, however, are limited.

If you are staying at either end, it helps to book hotels in advance during peak season and to plan your Dwarka arrival with our how to reach Dwarka guide.

What is worth seeing in Porbandar?

Porbandar rewards a half-day stop with two very different kinds of pilgrimage, one national and one devotional:

  • Kirti Mandir: the memorial at the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, born here in 1869, next to his ancestral home.

  • Sudama Temple: dedicated to Sudama, the childhood friend of Lord Krishna, which is why Porbandar is also called Sudamapuri.

  • Porbandar beach and Chowpatty: an easy seaside stroll, especially pleasant at sunset.

  • Bharat Mandir and Tara Mandir: a hall of Indian cultural relief work and a nearby planetarium for a quiet cultural pause.

How Porbandar fits the Dwarka and Somnath circuit

Porbandar sits neatly between Dwarka and Somnath on the coast, which makes it a natural stop rather than a detour. Many travellers do Dwarka first, pause at Porbandar for Kirti Mandir and Sudama Temple and continue down to Somnath, turning a temple trip into a fuller coastal journey. The Experience My India Somnath Dwarka tour packages can build Porbandar into the route so the stop costs you no extra planning.

What I tell travellers about Porbandar

My honest advice is not to skip Porbandar just because it is small. It is only about an hour and a half from Dwarka and a couple of hours there gives you two of the most meaningful stops on the whole coast: the simple room where Gandhi was born and the temple to Sudama, whose story of friendship with Krishna is one everyone knows. It is not a place for a long stay, but as a half-day stop it is hard to beat. Add it between Dwarka and Somnath and you barely lose any time while gaining a great deal. That balance of easy logistics and real meaning is exactly why I include Porbandar so often and why Experience My India builds it into so many coastal trips.

What travellers say

Real journeys planned by our team across the Somnath–Dwarka circuit.

We booked the 1 Day Dwarka Tour Package with Experience My India and decided to add a short Porbandar stop to our Gujarat trip. Harsh ji explained that Porbandar is only around 104 km from Dwarka, so it was an easy coastal drive rather than a major detour. We visited Kirti Mandir, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, followed by Sudama Temple. We also had some time for a walk near Porbandar beach before continuing towards Dwarka. The whole transfer took around an hour and a half, and having a private cab made the stop very convenient.
