Ambaji Mandir Timing: Darshan and Aarti Times at the Shakti Peeth

Ambaji Mandir timing is 8:00 to 11:30 AM, 12:30 to 4:30 PM and 7:30 to 9:00 PM daily, with the morning aarti at 7:30 AM and the evening aarti at 7:00 PM. Darshan is free, and timings can extend on Purnima and festival days.
Ambaji is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths and among the most revered temples in Gujarat, so pilgrims plan their visit around the darshan and aarti slots. This guide, from the team behind Somnath Dwarka Tour Package, a unit of Experience My India, gives the full Ambaji temple timings, the aarti schedule, what makes the shrine unique, the famous Mohanthal prasad and how to reach it. Timings can change during Navratri and Bhadarvi Poonam, so confirm on the official temple website before you travel.
Ambaji temple darshan timings
The Ambaji Mandir follows a three-session daily schedule, with a midday and an evening break for rituals. Here is the full timing:
Activity or slot | Timing |
Morning Aarti | 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM |
Morning Darshan | 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM |
Afternoon Darshan | 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM |
Evening Aarti | 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM |
Evening Darshan | 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM |
The temple is open all seven days of the week and darshan is free for all devotees. The gates close between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM and again in the evening between the afternoon session and the 7:00 PM aarti, for ritual preparation and cleaning, so plan your arrival around these breaks.
Ambaji mandir aarti timing
The aarti is the most powerful moment to be at the shrine. The main aartis are:
Morning aarti: around 7:30 AM, opening the day's darshan.
Evening aarti: around 7:00 PM, the most atmospheric time to visit.
Reach about 20 to 30 minutes early for the aarti, as the temple fills quickly, especially in the evening and on weekends.
What is special about the Ambaji temple?
Ambaji is unlike almost any other temple in India, which is part of why the darshan feels so unique:
A Shakti Peeth: it marks the spot where the heart of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen, one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peeths.
No idol: there is no statue of the goddess in the sanctum. Devotees worship the gold-plated Shree Visha Yantra, a sacred geometric form set in a small cave-like niche, the Gokh, which is never photographed.
The Suvarna Shikhar: the golden spire stands about 103 feet high, crowned with 358 golden kalashes and gleams over the town.
Chachar Chowk: the spacious marble courtyard around the shrine, used for ceremonial yagnas and for the huge festive Garba during Navratri.
Mohanthal prasad at Ambaji
The temple's famous prasad is Mohanthal, a traditional sweet made of pure cow ghee, gram flour and cardamom, offered daily to the goddess as Raj Bhog. You can buy packets at the counters near the temple or pre-order through the official Ambaji prasad portal and it makes a much-loved gift to carry home.
Gabbar Hill and the ropeway
Gabbar Hill, a short distance from the main temple, is believed to be the original seat of the goddess. You can climb the roughly 999 steps or take the ropeway, the Udan Khatola, to the top, where a parikrama path passes replicas of all 51 Shakti Peeths. The Gabbar aarti and timings are separate from the main temple and the hill offers sweeping views of the Aravalli ranges. Confirm the current ropeway and any light-and-sound show timings locally, as they can change.
Best time to visit Ambaji
Ambaji can be visited year round, but the temple is at its most vibrant during Navratri and on Bhadarvi Poonam, the full moon of Bhadrapada in around September, when its huge fair draws lakhs of devotees. Every Purnima or full moon, is also special, with extended timings. For comfortable weather, the winter months from October to March are ideal, in line with the best time to visit Gujarat. On these peak days, expect long queues and book stays well ahead.
How to reach Ambaji
Ambaji sits in the Danta taluka of Banaskantha district, in north Gujarat near the Rajasthan border and the Aravalli hills:
By train: Abu Road is the nearest railway station, about 21 km away, with good connections; Palanpur is the nearest Gujarat railhead.
By air: Ahmedabad airport is the nearest major airport, about 175 to 180 km away.
By road: Ambaji is well connected by bus and taxi from Ahmedabad, Palanpur, Mount Abu and nearby towns; a Somnath Dwarka taxi service can arrange a car for a wider Gujarat trip.
Tips for visiting Ambaji
A few pointers make the darshan smoother:
Plan around the midday break, 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, so you do not arrive to a closed gate.
Time your visit for the morning or evening aarti for the most moving darshan.
Understand that the Shree Yantra, not an idol, is what you see through the Gokh; knowing this changes the experience.
Book Somnath Dwarka hotels or trust accommodation early for Navratri and Bhadarvi Poonam.
Carry the Mohanthal prasad home and respect the no-photography rule inside the sanctum.
