One Day Dwarka Itinerary
Quick answer

A one day Dwarka itinerary covers the Dwarkadhish temple darshan and aarti, Gomti Ghat, Bet Dwarka island, the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and Rukmini Devi temple, ending with the evening aarti. Experience My India can arrange the darshan, cab and timing for a smooth single day.

I am Harsh Rawat and Dwarka is my hometown, so I have planned single-day visits here for travellers for more than eight years. One day is enough to cover Krishna's city and its most sacred sites if you begin at dawn and move in the right order. I handle these trips for the Somnath Dwarka Tour Package team, a unit of Experience My India. Below is the exact hour-by-hour one day Dwarka itinerary I give my own guests, from the morning darshan at the Jagat Mandir to the evening aarti.

Short on time in Dwarka? Message me on WhatsApp and I will plan a smooth single day with darshan and a cab or call +91 73006 20809.

Is one day enough for Dwarka?

Yes, one full day covers the Dwarkadhish temple, Bet Dwarka, the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and the sites around the city, as long as you start early and keep the plan tight. If you are short on time, you can drop Bet Dwarka and slow down. For the full sights of the city, our Dwarka city guide goes deeper, but this single day gives you the essence of Krishna's capital.

Dwarkadhish evening aarti

Morning: Dwarkadhish darshan and Gomti Ghat

Start at the Dwarkadhish temple, the Jagat Mandir, soon after it opens and take darshan of Dwarkadhish, Lord Krishna as king, catching the morning aarti if you can. Enter by the Swarga Dwar and leave by the Moksha Dwar, then walk down the steps to Gomti Ghat, where the Gomti meets the sea and see the Sudama Setu footbridge. Remember that phones and bags are not allowed inside the temple, so travel light.

Late morning: Bet Dwarka island

Drive about 30 km north to Okha and cross to Bet Dwarka, the island believed to be Krishna's own residence, now reached by the striking Sudarshan Setu bridge or by ferry. Visit the temples on the island, then head back toward Dwarka. If you are very short on time, this is the part of the day to trim, but if you can manage it, Bet Dwarka is well worth the trip.

Midday: Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and Rukmini temple

On the way back from Okha, stop at the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, marked by a giant Shiva statue and the nearby Gopi Talav. Closer to the city, about 2 km out, visit the Rukmini Devi temple, dedicated to Krishna's queen. Break for a Gujarati thali lunch around this point in the day.

Afternoon: rest, beach and market

Use the hottest part of the afternoon to rest, stroll the Dwarka beachfront or shop for prasad and souvenirs in the lanes near the temple. Keep the pace easy, since the day builds to the evening aarti. This is also a good time to pick up the famous local snacks and sweets before the temple gets busy again for the evening.

Evening: the Dwarkadhish aarti

Return to the Dwarkadhish temple for the evening aarti, the emotional high point of a Dwarka day, when the Jagat Mandir glows and the conches and bells fill the air. Reach a little early to find a place and let the aarti close your day in Krishna's city. If you are staying the night, this is the perfect note to end on before dinner.

How to reach Dwarka and get around

Dwarka has its own railway station about 2 km from the temple, with the nearest airports at Jamnagar and Porbandar and more options at Rajkot. For the full breakdown, see our guide on how to reach Dwarka. For a single day, a Somnath Dwarka taxi service is the easiest way to cover Bet Dwarka, Nageshwar and the city on one schedule and if you stay the night, book Somnath Dwarka hotels near the temple.

Tips for a one day Dwarka trip

A few pointers keep the day smooth:

  • Start at dawn; the early darshan is calmer and the whole plan depends on an early start.

  • Leave phones and bags at the cloakroom, as they are not allowed inside the temple.

  • Do Bet Dwarka in the morning while you are fresh or drop it if your time is tight.

  • Dress modestly and wear comfortable shoes for the walking and the ghats.

  • Keep the evening free for the Dwarkadhish aarti and avoid a late departure.

Make it a two day or coastal trip

If you have more time, Dwarka pairs beautifully with Somnath, the first Jyotirlinga, a few hours down the coast or you can add a one day Dwarka tour onto a wider circuit. The Experience My India Somnath Dwarka tour packages build the single day into a fuller Saurashtra pilgrimage with the stays and transfers handled.

What I tell single-day visitors to Dwarka

My honest advice, as someone from here, is to anchor your day on the two aartis at the Dwarkadhish temple, morning and evening and let everything else fit around them. Bet Dwarka is wonderful, but it eats time, so decide early whether you can fit it or would rather have an unhurried city day. Do not try to add Somnath in the same day; it deserves its own. Start at dawn, rest through the afternoon heat and give the evening to the aarti. One well-paced day in Dwarka leaves you full rather than frazzled and that is exactly how Experience My India plans it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Guide FAQs

Is one day enough to visit Dwarka?
Yes. One full day covers the Dwarkadhish temple, the morning and evening aartis, Gomti Ghat, Bet Dwarka, the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and the Rukmini Devi temple, as long as you start early. If time is tight, drop Bet Dwarka and slow the pace.
What is the best one day Dwarka itinerary?
Begin with the Dwarkadhish darshan and morning aarti, then Gomti Ghat, Bet Dwarka island in the late morning, the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and Rukmini temple by early afternoon, rest through the heat and the Dwarkadhish evening aarti to close the day.
Can I visit Bet Dwarka in a one day Dwarka trip?
Yes, if you start early. Bet Dwarka is about 30 km north at Okha, reached by the Sudarshan Setu bridge or by ferry and it takes a couple of hours. If your time is very tight, it is the part of the day to leave out.
What are the must-see places in Dwarka in one day?
The Dwarkadhish temple and Gomti Ghat, Bet Dwarka island, the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and Gopi Talav, the Rukmini Devi temple and the evening aarti at the Jagat Mandir.
What time should I start a Dwarka day trip?
Start at dawn, soon after the temple opens, to catch the morning aarti and to fit Bet Dwarka and Nageshwar before the afternoon heat. An early start is what makes the single day work.
How do I get around Dwarka in a day?
A private cab is the easiest way to cover Bet Dwarka, Nageshwar and the city sites on one schedule. Autos are available for short hops within the city, but the outlying sites are best done by car.
Can I combine Dwarka and Somnath in one day?
Not comfortably, as they are a few hours apart on the coast. Give Dwarka its own day, then travel to Somnath or take a two to three day plan that covers both temples without rushing.
Where should I stay for a one day Dwarka visit?
Stay near the Dwarkadhish temple so you are close to both the morning and evening aartis. Book ahead in peak season and on festival days like Janmashtami, when rooms near the temple fill up fast.
How much time is needed for Dwarkadhish temple darshan?
Allow around 1.5 to 2 hours for the Dwarkadhish temple visit, including darshan and time around the temple area. During weekends, festivals and peak pilgrimage periods, queues can take longer, so keep some extra time in your schedule.
What can I do in Dwarka after the morning aarti?
After the morning aarti, you can visit Gomti Ghat and then continue towards Bet Dwarka, Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and Gopi Talav. Keep Rukmini Devi temple for the return journey so you can gradually make your way back towards the main Dwarka area.
Is Dwarka suitable for a family day trip?
Yes. Dwarka is suitable for families, including travellers visiting with children or older members. A private vehicle makes the day easier, while keeping an afternoon break in the itinerary helps everyone avoid travelling continuously in the heat.
Can I visit Rukmini Devi Temple and Nageshwar on the same day?
Yes, both can comfortably be included in a well-planned one day Dwarka itinerary. They are outside the main Dwarkadhish temple area, so it is better to visit them together while travelling towards the nearby pilgrimage sites.
What should I wear when visiting Dwarkadhish Temple?
Wear comfortable and modest clothing suitable for a religious place. Light cotton clothes are useful during warmer months and comfortable footwear is recommended because you may need to walk between the temple area, ghats and nearby attractions.
Is the evening aarti at Dwarkadhish Temple worth attending?
Yes. If your schedule allows, staying for the evening aarti gives the day a more complete pilgrimage experience. Instead of leaving Dwarka immediately after sightseeing, keep the evening free for the temple and then plan your onward journey afterward.

What travellers say

Real journeys planned by our team across the Somnath–Dwarka circuit.

We booked the 1 Day Dwarka Tour Package with Experience My India because we had only one full day. The early start made everything possible. We began with Dwarkadhish Temple and the morning aarti, followed by Gomti Ghat and Sudama Setu. Later, we went towards Bet Dwarka and then stopped at Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and Gopi Talav before visiting Rukmini Devi Temple. We rested during the hottest part of the afternoon and returned to Dwarkadhish for the evening aarti. The day was full, but the order of the places made sense and we never felt like we were unnecessarily driving back and forth.
